Marlborough is located in Middlesex County in Eastern Massachusetts. The town owes some of its popularity to its central location and proximity to all of the region's largest cities. Marlborough was created when townspeople from nearby Sudbury petitioned the General Court to allow them to move eight miles away to establish a new town as a spot for plantations. Marlborough was incorporated first as a town in 1660.
